March 16-22, 2025 Here We Go to South Carolina!

16-Sun-OK, Today is the day! We finished packing the RV, which takes more time than you think. We backed the RV out and locked the gate. We went to the parking lot where we hookup the pickup. And then we were on our way to South Carolina! We are going to visit my sister and her husband at their winter abode. We went south on I-35, then east on I-40 to Sallisaw KOA. We were able to get our propane filled and settle in for the night. We got the satellite dish going and de-winterized the RV. Whew, we are on the road!

17-Mon-After breakfast, we dressed, made the bed and walked the dogs. Then we headed to West Memphis, AR on I-40. I called several places and I was not sure if I could get a spot for the night. I finally lucked out and got a site at Tom Sawyer RV park. It is right on the Mississippi River. We saw barges going up and down the river. That was interesting.

We passed a truckload of chickens on the road

I loaned Steve my sunglasses! He is a movie star!

18-Tue-We got around and unhooked the utilities and checked the oil. We were able to fit into Quick Trip to get gas. Then we were in construction getting through Memphis. It was a little rugged. We joined I-22 to Birmingham, Al then I-20 to Lincoln AL. We stayed at Talledega Pit Stop RV park. Everything was fine for awhile. Then later the electric tripped where we were plugged in. Steve moved the cord to the site next to us as there were not many people staying here. We were unable to get the local channels due to trees. When we had the dogs outside a lady came by with her dog and was determined to try to get our dogs to make friends with her dog. We kept telling her our dogs are not friendly, she just would not take the hint. We finally gave up and went inside the RV.

We were in Tennessee for a minute or so

Then we went right into Mississippi

It was a lovely day

We crossed into Alabama about 1:15

19-Wed-We were up at 7:30 or so. We walked the dogs, dumped the sewer and unhooked the utilities. We left about 10 AM. The step was out going down the interstate about 30 miles! DUH! We have to remember to flip that switch. We got gas at Loves’ and were back on the road. We made it through Atlanta safe and sound. We stopped in August GA ar the Heritage RV park. And later I noticed the diamond had fallen out of my ring! I was very upset. We looked around but did not find it.

This is me on the road!

This is the Talladega National Forest - some of the prettiest part of our drive

We crossed into Georgia about 11:50 AM

20-Thu-This morning after getting on the road my first goal was to get gas and stop at the South Carolina Welcome Center for maps. I went in and the lady there gave me great information on the roads to take and what to do when we arrived. So we made it to Huntington Beach State Park in Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina. We checked in and parked and set up the RV. Then we walked the dogs. We drove to Marsha’s house in Pawley’s Island (about 4 miles south). They fixed us supper of Turkey, mashed potatoes. vegetables and homemade cheesecake. We checked out the townhouse they rent at Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort. It is very nice. We visited up a storm. We haven’t got together in person in about 5 or  6 years, even though we talk on the phone daily.

We crossed the Savannah River

We made it to South Carolina at about 10:00 AM

Our first site I think it was Number 95

21-Fri-After getting around we went to Marsha’s and they took us on a drive, headed north. They wanted us to have lunch at Dagwood - but it was closed for re-modeling. So we drove back to Pawleys Island and ate at Quigley’s. Tony drove around and showed us some of the golf courses and resorts. We saw one small alligator - but I did not get his picture. Then we went bake to the townhouse. Tony went to visit a friend in the hospital and Marsha joined us to go check on our dogs. Then we went to Hammock Village. They are famous for their hand made hammocks. But wow those are pretty expensive. We walked and looked around. Next we went to Publix grocery store (a first for us). Then was back to Marsha’s. Next we returned tot he RV to feed and walk the dogs. We relaxed and had snacks for supper and then went back to Marsha’s to visit and eat cheesecake. We watched the NCAA wrestling finals. Marsha and I also talked to our sister Pam.

22-Sat-In order to get sites at Huntington Beach State Park, I had to make reservations that involved moving every two days. So this morning after completing the usual things we unhook the utilities. I found out we have to move the RV to the parking lot by the office and wait on a call. So that took a little time. I wasn’t expecting that, but it was OK. We moved into site # 76 and set up. Then we went to Marsha’s to hang out and visit. We watched wrestling again. Her husband, Tony was a wresting coach and PE teacher before he retired, so he wanted us to see OSU wrestle. And OSU did good! They fixed a lovely supper of lasagna and salad. Yum!

  1. Ugh ... lots of traffic! I hate it when people do that with their dogs. I don't know how many times I've said MY DOGS ARE NOT FRIENDLY ... and their response is MINE IS. DUH!!!!
