Friday, August 18, 2017 The Beach, Lighthouses, Boat Dock

Today has been a great day. We got up and watched a little TV then walked the dogs to the beach from our Campground.

We hung out at the beach about and hour and let the dogs frolic. I waded in the Pacific Ocean and we just enjoyed the waves, the sounds and the sights.

The dogs kept us quite entertained also. Zoey loves to chase waves and dig in the sand! Buster likes to run near the ocean! We are daft over our dogs!

Then we returned to the RV. We hung out there and then went on a drive to Cape Disappointment State Park. We saw the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, which we will tour before we leave. Then we drove to the boat dock and parked and watched the boats go by - - so interesting.

We stopped at the North Head lighthouse and walked the dogs on a trail. Next we stopped at the Beard's Hollow Overlook and took some pictures.

Naps were in order next. Steve and I left the dogs at the RV and went for a ride- looking for a place to eat out. We were going to eat at the Lost Roo - too packed! So we got out and checked out the beach at Long Beach. We saw this whale skeleton on the beach by the boardwalk. It is a spot where Lewis & Clark saw a dead whale washed ashore many years ago. Then in the year 2,000 a whale beached north of this spot and long story short - some University people got permission to place it here. That is the skeleton we saw.

We hunted for a place to eat, many were busy, finally we ate at Doogers Seafood Grill--It was good! Then we returned back to the beach for sunset! So lovely.

We got back to the RV, walked the dogs and I worked on the blog then went to bed. Great Day!

Saturday & Sunday August 12 & 13, 2017 - Taking it easy and Moving Around

Saturday Today we were going to drive to La Push - the Beach, but Steve didn't feel too hot, so we stayed at home (the RV). We walked the dogs a couple of times. It rained this afternoon so we were glad to be in the RV. That's about it! We paid some bills and Steve got his checkbook caught up. I tried to plan a route home in case Steve doesn't feel better. Sunday It was overcast and cool. We got around pretty good and left the RV Park about 10:20, hookws up raw pickup and gassed the RV. We actually started driving aboubt 10:45. It is a slow road - scenic drive on Highway 101. Much of it is along the coast. We stopped and watched the waves and admired the Pacific Ocean. An ugly Slug at the RV Park!

Then the drive moved inland - lots of beauty everywhere.

These are some abandoned Nuclear Reactors. Satsop Nuclear Power Plant, designed to house two 1250 megawatt pressurized water reactors. Construction of the Satsop Nuclear Power Plant began in 1977 and was halted in 1983 after a $61 million budget shortfall, leaving the plant 75% complete. The twin cooling towers that are part of the unfinished plant are a well-known landmark in the area. (wikipedia)

We got to Thousand Trails near Chehalis about 3:00 or 4:00 PM. Again this park is out in the country - 7 miles from a town of any size. It was a good time to arrive. We drove around and found a site. We checked to see if the Dish would work --Yes! it does after some maneuvering. Of course the RV is not level from front to back. The back is way downhill! Well we get to have TV so all is good. We drove to some small hamlet and got pizza in a bar and watched some Seattle Seahawk fans carry on with their pre-season game. That was amusing. This Thousand Trails park has a much better vibe. The sites are roomier. The place is quieter, fewer bikes, Yea! But also continues to have a poor cell phone signal. Oh Well, can't have everything. Roughing It Smoothly!
