Memorial Day Week-End 2013 May 25, 26, 27

Well I have been working 5 days a week and going like the Energizer Bunny (LOL). This decreases my ability to figure out what to do and where to go on long week-ends, plus the tornado at Moore this last week shook up everybody in Oklahoma. Sure not excited about getting out in the RV if another tornado was on the way. So we debated and discussed whether to go anywhere over the week-end - since we had not de-winterized or even towed our new pick-up. We were going to de-winterize last week-end but the step would not come out. But I talked to Kristi and she said Logan (grandson) was sure wanting to go camping in the RV. So I called El Reno West KOA and reserved a spot for Saturday and Sunday night. Friday night Steve (and I handing tools) worked on the step with the newly arrived parts -- he worked hard about 2 hours, but no luck. Will have to finish later. We got up about 8 AM on Saturday and started packing, putting the tow bar on the pickup, wiring up the step and all the little things we had to do to get ready to go. We finally left about noon, stopped at the bank and got money, gassed the RV and hit the road. We drove down I-35 to Oklahoma City, then went west on I-40 - and oh boy was the traffic a little crazy -- not rush hour but busy enough on our 1st RV outing of the year. Anyway we made it to El Reno and met Kristi and Logan at Wal-Mart - and went in and got groceries and Memorial Day flowers. Then we left for the KOA West of El Reno. We got settled in and Logan had lots of fun on the jumping pillow and playground. We cooked hamburgers, hot dogs and s'mores Saturday night. We went to a different site close to the trees to make the campfire for s'more making. Sunday we got up and drove from I-40 and Geary to North of Mooreland to Haskew Cemetary where lots of my relative are buried. We had a nice drive there, very windy putting flowers on the grave and a kinda long drive back which required a nap after arriving at the RV. We also saw my Aunt Mary and one of her sons, Johnny at Haskew Cemetary. Sunday night we grilled steak, potatoes, corn on the cob and later had strawberries and angel food cake. The food was good and I ate too much. Logan also went swimming on Sunday evening (while Steve & I napped). His Momma took him swimming. Monday morning we slept in and then got around to come home. Logan rode the Pedal Cart - and Zoey (dog) and I ran around while he rode. Then we unhooked utilities, hooked up the pick-up and went up to the Cherokee Trading Post and looked around. We drove to El Reno on I-40 with the 25 - 30 MPH crosswind almost blowing the RV over. Steve was steering for all he was worth and I was hanging on for dear life. We pulled in at Wal-Mart and rode to Pizza Hut for lunch. Decided we would drive north out of El Reno on Highway 81 to Hennessey then take Highway 51 to I-35. At least that way we had the tailwind for awhile before Steve had to fight the crosswind. We did it and even took a nap at Hennessey before we started the battle east to I-35. We made it to I-35 then had a tailwind again - which was fine. Anyway we made it home sweet home. Glad we got here safely!!

May 4, 2013 (May the 4th be with you!! and/or The First Saturday in May)

Well of course today is the first Saturday in May--Which is known for THE KENTUCKY DERBY! Watched it! Loved it! I try to watch the Kentucky Derby every year - the winner was Orb!! I liked him. On another racing note - we watched some NASCAR at Talladega, lots of crashes! We want to go there sometime. We have a new pickup and have had the tow bar hardware put on it. We were going to try it all out today but the temperature here was 47 degrees with a 20 mph wind out of the NORTH.... making it feel 40 degrees. Therefore the plans changed. Maybe next week-end or the next we will hook it up and go to a campground and get things de-winterized. We are so ready to get the RV out - but it has been a very chilly spring. Hopefully we are done with the freezing weather. We are glad for the moisture we have received because all the lakes and ponds needed the water. Last month we celebrated two birthdays - Logan (8) grandson and my niece (Paige) a little older and wiser. Other than that we haven't done much else. Well that's about it ...hope to go RV'ing soon!
