August 16 - 31, 2023 Slowing Down and Celebrating my Birthday!

Aug 16 -Wednesday-I got up about 8:45, so a little late this morning. After finishing our morning routine we sat outside with the dogs. I did some work on the computer and later my cousin texted me and said her brother (my cousin) had passed away. So I let my sisters know. It is tough getting older, especially when we lose family and friends. It reminds us of how fragile life is. The game wardens were here  and took their boat out, but we didn’t get to talk to them. It is still hot - 93° at 4:45 PM. Steve and I went to town and ate at Rosa’s Pizza!

There is a squirrel on that branch1

Yes, it is still smoky!

Smoke makes the sunsets gorgeous!

Aug 17- Thursday-We were up about 9 this morning. Sydney dropped by about 11:30 or so. We ate our leftover pizza for lunch and snacks for supper. It was hot again! We do appreciate the cool mornings though.

More deer pictures!

A lovely sunset without the smoke

Aug 18 -Friday-We did all the usual things this morning. It was breezy today. We had hamburgers and chips for lunch. Then we went to Kalispell. Steve was able to find some shoes at the Army Navy store. Then we gassed up the pickup and went to Walmart. We were only gone about 2 hours. When we got home the electricity was off, so we used our generator. The wind blew in smoke today.

Aug 19 -Saturday-Again it is smoky outside. Steve worked on the steps. We also dumped our tanks. There were not too many folks here today which was nice. We drove up to Krause Basin and Strawberry Lake Trailhead this evening. We saw deer and turkeys.

I found a Mermaid tail on the beach today.

There are not many days that we don't see deer! We always like to see the wildlife!

Aug 20-Sunday-My morning started with a phone call and texts. My family in Oklahoma forgets that it is earlier here. It’s ok though because I can nap in the afternoon. We sat outside after completing the routine activities. Tony P and Sydney were here about 11:00 AM. Its still smoky, we are hoping for rain to get rid of the smoke!

Aug 21 -Monday-We got up and took it easy. It finally rained, so we didn’t do our outside chores until we had a break. We had a mess in the parking lot of macaroni, so we cleaned that up. Steve also worked on the steps again. The make it easy to go to the shoreline by our RV.

Aug 22-Tuesday-Today we were up at 7:15 and got ready. We loaded up the dogs and headed to liberty lake WA (outskirts of Spokane) to pick up the new tow bar we ordered. We left at 8:15 and arrived back at the RV about 5:15. It was a lot drive. The scenery was lovely and it did rain on us most of the way.

This is a beautiful area if you ever get here.

Aug 23-Wednesday-Sydney was herbivore we did our chores today and we visited with her. Steve fixed the speed bump, it wasn’t locked to the chain. Then he installed the new tow bar. We went to town to do laundry - but it was a little late and the parking lot was full. So we will do it tomorrow. We drove around town a few minutes and guess what? We saw deer!

I love the moon and house lights reflections on the lake. This is 10:30 at night. It's starting to get dark earlier!

Aug 24-Thursday-We were up in good time and finished our morning routine in a timely fashion. We were off to the laundromat about 9:30 and finished about noon. After a light lunch we drove to Kalispell and got new tires for the pickup. Boy are they expensive. We were back to the RV by 3:30. It is always good to get several things accomplished in one day. Wanna see more Deer?

Aug 25 -Friday-We did the routine things. I called my sister a wished her a happy birthday. We walked the beach and  did some extra clean-up.

Aug 26 -Saturday-Today is my birthday! I got up early for me because some people texted me early to wish me a Happy Birthday! After finishing our duties we left for Polebridge about 9:45. We had a nice drive and the road was not too bumpy for this late in the season. We had lunch at got cookies and the famous Huckleberry Bear Claws. We got home about 3 PM. There were 15 cars outside the gate! We were surprised so many people were here.

I couldn't resist taking a picture of this old barbed wire.

This dog is the mascot for the Polebridge Mercantile (I think).

Rocks, I love them too!

The famous Huckleberry Bearclaws! I love them also!

Aug 27 -Sunday-We were up at 9:00 this morning. Sydney was here about 30 min. We gave her a cookie from Polebridge Mercantile. It was a busy day but not packed. The parking was A-OK, I checked it twice in the afternoon. Maybe people are behaving better!

Moonrise over the mountains. 10:30 PM

Aug 28-Monday-Today I worked on scheduling an appointment for Steve at the VA. Because he has MS, he has to have an exam to verify his ability to drive. We never know when the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety is going to require this. So we are always in a panic to get this taken care of before their deadline. Then we were off to Kalispell to get a new light fixture, one of ours blew out. Then we just hung out and monitored the site.

Aug 29-Tuesday-Today we did extra duty by washing out the latrine with the hose. Sometimes it needs done. We made a run to town for some groceries and fruit. We had rain and more rain. That is great, because we needed it. Supper was hamburgers, and fried potatoes, yum!

Aug 30-Wednesday-IT’s RAINING! It did not let up all day. So we stayed inside except to let the dogs out a couple of times. Tony P called to see if we had any trees down, I told him not so far. Then he called again to let us know the older guy was coming to get the downed log on the outgoing road. I made Chili for supper.

Aug 31-Thursday-Poopsie had a tummy ache so I was outside letting her eat grass about 6 AM, then back to bed. We went to Walmart and were gone about 2 and 1/2 hours. It was a pretty fast trip. I completed our timesheets to give to the boss. We took an evening drive to Bear Creek Road. We did not see any bears.

Another deer to finish out the month.

These pictures are from our trail camera. The older guy who wanted to get wood was here early with his nifty equipment to get these logs from the outgoing road.
