Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Medora, ND June 26, 2017 Monday

Today we leave Spearfish SD and drive north to Medora, ND. It took awhile to get going! There was no suitable place to get gas in Spearfish, so our plan was to gas up in Belle Fouche.
We stopped at a Sinclair there and the gas would barely come out of the nozzle, I checked inside and found out they were out of gas--waiting on a truck So we went across the street and pulled in just to wait for the person in front to move so we would fit. Finally, we got gas. Then we pulled back across to Sinclair to put Lucas additive in the transmission. We got going about 11:45 AM - after about 2 hours we made dog rest stop. Then we drove about another hour and a half and got ice cream and took a little break with the dogs, we were close to Medora.
We arrived at the Medora Campground and their computers were down--they couldn't figure out where we were supposed to go--finally the computers came back up and we found out which site to go to. We got parked and set up. After some lag time we drove to Theodore Roosevelt National Park about 7 PM. the perfect time to watch wildlife. We saw feral horses first, then buffalo and deer. Lots of prairie dog villages are in this national park.
We saw more buffalo, deer and feral horses.
The day ended with a beautiful sky.

Deadwood, Sunday, June 25, 2017

Today we walked the dogs and settled them in. Next we saw a really nice Camero from the Eighties (?) while we were getting gas for the pickup.
Then we were off to Deadwood. We parked ($5.00) and walked around the old part of downtown Deadwood. The first thing was a guy telling us to come in here --this is where Wild Bill Hickok was shot!
So we checked it out, then wandered around town.
Later we had lunch and went back to the RV. Steve wanted to replace the transmission filter in the RV and get some shocks for his pickup topper shell. We went to Auto Zone and got the shocks-now it opens great and Steve won't hit his head so many times! Yea!
We came back and looked up parts, he thinks we might need a fuel filter also. He wanted to change the transmission filter because he thinks the tranny is shifting a little weird going uphill and we have some mountains to climb somewhere. After we got the filters, he had no problem changing the transmission filter, but no good luck with the fuel filter replacement. We will figure that out later. Finished our evening with a walk and I have been working hard to catch up the blog. Tomorrow is driving day--off to Medora, ND, where Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located. We will tour it and then move on. I think I just figured out why we keep getting tired, we have seen and toured a lot of places in the last week! Today is officially our 10th day on this trip. Happy Trails and consider The Black Hills for your next road trip! Some pretty horses here in South Dakota!
