Sept 7 - Sept 13, 2019 Forest Lookout Tower, Rain, and Boy was I Lucky!

Saturday - Sept 7
When the routine things were done, we found out Steve had caught a mouse. Our time here is passing fast. There were not too many folks here at11:15 AM.  Someone was here with diving equipment looking for lost anchors. Weird huh? Later we drove down to Porcupine Creek Road and checked the forest lookout and another forest road. We didn't see any bears. We had a nice walk and a campfire back at the RV. We ate nachos for supper, then showered and went to bed.

Sunday - Sept 8
Today we watched the Dallas Cowboys win their game! We ate hamburgers at home. It was a calm afternoon. We did see some divers again today. We walked the loop with the dogs later because they love that. They think they are on a hunting trip. Supper was Canadian Bacon, Scrambled eggs and toast.  We talked to Kristi then watched Longmire. It rained from 7 PM on through the night.

Divers- noticed he flippers

Monday - Sept 9
It was still raining this morning when we got up. We were late getting up so we quickly let the dogs out to go potty. They didn't want out much - they don't like the rain. We stayed inside while it rained, most of the day. It finally let up and walked the dogs. It rained again in the afternoon. Steve and I went to town for pizza then returned to watch TV.

Tuesday - Sept 10
After accomplishing our morning routine -we drove to Kalispell. We dropped our volunteer timesheets off at the FWP office, then went to Walmart for supplies. After getting back to the RV we put away our supplies and ate leftover pizza. A girl and her dog (with no leash) went to the dock and swam part way across the lake.  I told her the dog needed a leash but she didn't seem to care. She said, "We are just going to swim in the lake"
OK, fine. Later we  took the dogs on a ride to town and also cleaned the Bifogrk Access. We put out some rope lights under the RV because they are supposed to keep mice away. We were really nice to the dogs today - because we walked the north beach and let them come with us.  We are trying to use up our firewood - so we had a nice fire tonight also.

Wednesday - Sept 11
The mornings are all mostly the same. I made hamburger helper for lunch. Next we watched some TV. The aren't very many folks here today. Steve straightened out the back of the pickup. We also did an inventory of the supplies we have on hand in the shed. Steve picked up up rocks and sticks down in front of the boat parking, because he hopes to use the lawnmower there next year instead of weed eating. I worked on the blog some then watched Longmire . We also looked on the computer to check out new awnings to replace ours.
Weird piece of equipment someone brought down from the loop road to load onto a trailer later.

Thursday - Sept 12
Today Steve's back was bothering him. We walked after breakfast and did the chores about 11 AM. We checked the tire pressure on the RV - all at 86 - 88 pounds pressure. Then we checked the oil and fluids. The RV wouldn't start - so we drove to town for a couple of new connections. The dogs went with us - they love riding in the pickup. Steve got those ends changed and the RV started. We had a lunch of sandwiches and chips. I made Steve sit in his reclining chair and rest his back. He got a short nap. The we walked , had supper and watched TV.

Friday - Sept 13
Steve'a back was giving him fits and Zoey got him up at 3:00 AM. He called me to come help him back into the RV. We were up and down til 6:00 AM or so. He never got back to sleep , but I did and got up later at 8:30. After eating breakfast, I walked the dogs separately. I called a chiropractor in town  $30 Chiropractor - Dr. Whipple - Whip. He is open from 11 - 5:30 . We got there at 11 and Steve was 2nd in line. He started walking and feeling better soon. He was not great but improved. We returned to the RV and rested. Steve put  ice on his back and was a little better. He was good enough to walk a bit with the dogs. I fixed chicken  soup for supper then more resting and TV. We walked down in the parking lot and I found a $50 bill in the boat chute!  Lucky me!

August 31 - Sept 6, 2019 We survived Labor Day Week-end. More deer and turkeys!

Saturday - Aug 31
All the routine things were accomplished. Then we went to the post office in Bigfork to pick up our package from Hazel and buy some stamps. I mailed birthday cards to Parker and Kristi. Then we went back to the RV for lunch and watched some TV. A fifth wheel pulled in on the boat parking side. We talked to them and warned them about the big rocks. They said they wanted to try out their kayaks and would only be parked there about an hour -- so after an hour and a half went by and they had not left, I went up and talked to the boat education guy and they started to pack up as I observed them. Then I noticed a boat tied up to the dock- the education volunteer said they were were getting a part for the boat and would then move it. Two kids rode through the lot, one on a 4 wheeler and one on a mini dirt bike. I told them they are not supposed to ride through here! Now it is almost 5 PM and they came around some more. Finally,  Steve said let's follow them. A pickup with a jet ski trailer pulled in and  the the kids were right behind it. We pulled up behind the kids on their 4 wheeler and mini bike. The one on the mini bike fell. So I asked if the guy who came in with the jet ski trailer if hw was their dad. He said yes. Steve talked to him about us warning the kids not keep riding through the parking lot, because it is not safe. They could easily be ran over by people backing up their boats and not seeing them. Plus some of the people who come here might have been drinking. He was appreciative about us telling him. We tried to see the northern lights tonight- but no luck. Steve also tried to take some star pictures - but we could not get in a good location for that either - too many lights.

Sunday - Sept 1  84 degrees
Pretty routine morning. We did check the north beach for trash. We sat outside and enjoyed the nice weather. We watched some TV and I also visited with the boat education volunteer. We didn't have any problems. I fixed us some supper and we watched the OU football game until they got way ahead, then we changed to Longmire.

Monday - Sept 2  83 degrees  Labor Day
We got up a little earlier. After doing all our routine things - Steve did some weed eating while I picked up trash. We drove to town - the trash place was closed and so was the drugstore. We checked the access site and cleaned it. Then  I drove to Ferndale and bought a hiking book. We returned to the RV and had lunch and walked the dogs. I broke the blind by the couch so Steve & I spent about 2 1/2 to 3 hours fixing it.  I just assisted, he did the actual fixing.

Tuesday - Sept 3  82  degrees -
I was up and down last night, Steve was up very early with Poopsie (she was kinda sick at her stomach). I didn't sleep until 2 or 3 AM and got up at 8:30. We did our chores and walk. Next I called the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety and got an extension until November 6, 2019 for Steve's Driver License Medical Exam.  Next I called urgent care in Bigfork and made an appointment to have them check my right ear and right side of my neck. They said come in about 12;30 PM and I could fill out paper and see someone. The ARNP thinks it's bites and swollen lymph glands. So   I went to the pharmacy for benadryl and a cold pack. We decided to stop at the Grateful Bread for quiche.  We dumped our trash on the way back to the RV. Since the sleep was poor last night we napped from 3 - 5 PM. We also watched some TV. Later we took a drive from 7 - 8:45 PM and saw lots of deer and turkeys. That is some of our favorite entertainment.

Wednesday - Sept 4  84 degrees
Same old routine today. Tony Powell (our boss) came down and brought some brochures for the boat education folks. We visited with him a bit. We had sandwiches for lunch and then took it easy. We walked our dogs . For supper I cooked chicken, squash and red peppers on the griddle - and that along with rice fixed us up.

I am so short I can clear the side mirror of this pickup!

Thursday - Sept 5  82 degrees
On our return from the walk, we saw an FWP pickup turn into the Echo Lake Access site. It was Seth (Maintenance Guy) -- he was here to spray weeds. We stayed outside and had a campfire until mid-morning. Then we were back in the RV to hang out.  Later we went to town and cleaned the access site and ate pizza. Also stopped by the grocery tstore before we went back to the RV.  We walked our dogs, rested and watched TV. Leftover pizza was what we had for supper. Then we watched the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears play football.

View from the parking lot! Steve has done great weed eating!

Friday - Sept 6  67 degrees was the high!
Poopsie had a bad night and messed up the bed. We got up about 5:40 AM. Eventually we had breakfast since neither of us had any luck getting back to sleep. After walking the dogs, we got the laundry around and went to the laundromat in town. We were finished by 11 AM. After getting everything put away we walked the dogs around the loop, and had a sandwich for lunch. Then I napped and Steve rested. Tonight's supper was chili. Again we went for a drive on La Brandt road and McCaffery road. We saw  15 - 20 deer!  This is entertaining to us. I know we are easily amused.  We came back and watched TV and then went to bed.

August 24 - 30, 2019 Bear Sighting! OurFriends (Donna & Larry) Visited Us!

Saturday - August 24
We were up and around about 8:15 and did all the usual things. Steve did some weed eating this morning.  After lunch we watched some TV. About 4:00 we went to Ferndale and got gas and drove on down to Swan River Recreation Area. This is a forest place that has a day use picnic area, a boat ramp, and campground across the highway. After checking this out we drove south to Porcupine Creek road. We drove back quite aways then turned North for awhile then came back before we got back to the National Wildlife Reguge Parking area we saw a Bear! It ran across the road too fast to get a picture. But Steve, me and the dogs saw it! We came back home after a drive of about 55 - 60 miles round trip. I fixed us an easy supper and then watched a movie.

Pictures of Swan River at Porcupine Creek Road!

Sunday - August 25  67 degrees
I stayed awake late last night after reading a book , so I din't get up til about 8:30.  The mornings are pretty much the same from day to day. Steve did a little more weed eating today while I did the chores. We ate snacks for lunch and rested. Later we went to town for groceries. We has a simple supper, hamburger and chips. We watched football tonight. It rained about 9:15 PM.
My sister, Pam and me!
Monday - August 26
Today was my birthday! We did our routine things in the morning, including cleaning the Bigfork Access. We ate supper at the Mexican place in town to celebrate my birthday. Then we returned home and ate cake and ice cream. We didn't do any extra work today. Steve gave me cards and I got phone calls from Marsha, Tony, Pam and Krisit and the kids. It was a nice day.

Tuesday  - August 27
Today after chores we loaded up our clothes and did the laundry. After putting our clothes away we rested and didn't do much else that was exciting.

Wednesday - August 28
Well this was another routine day and I have gotten behind in writing the blog. I don't remember anything much about this day. We did have a spectacular sunset.

Thursday - August 29
After doing our chores, we went to Kalispell for supplies at Walmart. When we got back at 12:45, Tony, our boss was here. We visited with him a bit then put away the groceries. We both took it easy and played iPad games. At 4:00 we loaded the trash and hauled it off. Then went on to town and mailed an anniversary card to Pam & JC. We also checked the Bigfork Access. After that we went to Outback RV Campground and picked up Donna & Larry. We showed them around Bigfork. They are the couple we met when workamping at Farragut in 2015. All of us ate supper at Flathead Brewery. We drove them out to see our spot here at Echo Lake and then took them back to their site about 8:30.  We  visited about and hour and then returned home. After walking the dogs and went to bed.
Donna & Larry
Friday, August 30
We got around and did our routine stuff.  I also paid some bills. About 11:30 we met Donna and Larry at the Echo Lake cafe for brunch. Then back to the RV for a bit. Next we left for a drive up to Jewel Basin and spent some time up there. We walked part way up a trail. After we got back to the pickup we decided to drive up by Krause Interpretive Trail and Strawberry Lake trailhead, Then we were back to the RV and rested. When we got back a thunderstorm came up kind of quick so Donna & Larry went to their RV and I took a little rest. We ate snacks for supper. It was a nice evening  watching Oklahoma State beat Oregon State in football!  Woo Hoo!

It was a very nice day - cool the high was 67 degrees. We mailed a birthday card to Pam and stopped at the drugstore. Next we drove to Horseshoe Lake, another fishing access site down by Ferndale. Our next stop was at the Swan River fishing acmes to check it out. It was a beautiful spot and had a lovely cabin across the river. We drove on up the road to Peterson Creek Trailhead. Steve found a beautiful stream before we got to the trailhead. It was a lovely drive and exploration that lasted from about 2 - 5 PM. When we got home   I fixed us turkey bacon, eggs and toast. Monday - Aug 19 85 degrees
My first task today was to call the VA to get some of Steve's medications shipped to us here. We got that accomplished. Today we walked the beach and picked up trash besides our routine chores. Next on the agenda was a trip to town to clean the access site at Bigfork . While there we also picked up some groceries. Then we just hung out and took it easy. Supper rolled around and we fixed hamburgers on the griddle. After watching some TV, we drove up to the Krause Basin Interpretive trail. We really enjoy these drives and saw deer on our way home. It is always about 5 - 6 degrees cooler up by the Strawberry Lake trailhead.

Tuesday - Aug 20 87 degrees
It was a lovely morning. We got up at 7:45 and dressed and had breakfast. Then we completed our dog walk and chores. It was time to go to Walmart - so we headed there about 9:25 AM. I checked with the VA about the shots and got a call back from them before we got to Kalispell. We did our thing at Walmart and got gas, then arrived back to the RV by 11:45 AM. I love it when we get that finished early. After lunch, I took a nap while watching TV.  We drove to town for pizza and that finished the day.

Wednesday - Aug 21 90 degrees
It was pretty routine today. We did see two deer when we walked the loop road today. The UPS called us at 1:00 PM and said our package had arrived.  Yea! I do love it when a plan comes together. The dogs rode to town with us. We paid $5 for the package delivery. The VA sent 3 boxes of shots. We are good! - We went back to the RV and I worked on the blog. Also I took a nap. I think I had to ask 2 different sets of people to get off the dock today. One lady was really nice and the other one wasn't. We watched Longmire and Yellowstone  tonight. Today was very hot in the sun - so we tried to avoid it.

Thursday - Aug 22  67 degrees was the high
We did all the routine things including walking the dogs around the loop road. Then we did our chores and loaded up the dogs to go to town. We drove around some of the streets in Bigfork and saw some lovely houses. We also spotted 3 bucks and a mama deer with 2 fawns. After returning to the RV we took it easy a bit. I fixed supper on the griddle - chicken, squash, red pepper and salad. Later we had a lovely campfire - because it was so nice. We even made s'mores and sat outside til about 9:00 PM.
