May 1 - 15, 2025 More Projects and Getting Ready to head to Montana

1-Thu-Today we were starting off slow. Later I worked on my blog. Steve vacuumed the vehicles. After lunch we went to Linda’s. I got my hair colored and Steve got a hair cut. Supper was cube steak, french fries, green beans and berries.

2-Fri-I was up and around pretty early today. I want to the Tag office to get the new Real ID. I have a passport, but thought I would just go ahead and get this also. Then we went by Linda’s to visit. Next stop was Hazel’s to give her mail money and a key to the post office. We dropped off some clothes to donate while we were out. After lunch we drove to Stillwater. Steve got some new overalls at Tractor supply, we made a stop at the big Walmart and I got a Lung Scan. It is a follow-up from last fall. Supper was hamburger helper and berries.

3-Sat-Today is the Kentucky Derby. We got up and Steve finished cleaning out the vehicles. I paid some bills. Then we dropped by Linda’s to see her garage sale. The car show was in town so we looked at some pretty old cars. We bought a sandwich from Monty’s new food trailer. It was good. It was a Philly cheesesteak and homemade fries. We just split the one sandwich and that was plenty. Later we returned to Linda’s shop to watch the Kentucky Derby and have virgin mint juleps. I didn’t win the betting pool, but it was fun watching. Next we went back downtown and watched the old cars and pickups do a burnout. That was interesting.

Sovereignty Won!  Sloppy track

Burnout. There were lots that tried, but this was the best.

4-Sun-Today we loaded the pickup (tools) and put some stuff in the RV. We also checked the air pressure on the RV tires. We did a few loads of laundry. I made chicken enchilada casserole and we had salad and baked Tostitos with it.

5-Mon-We did our regular stuff this morning. Then I mowed the yard. The whole thing, front and back. Steve did the weed -eating. This took from 9-11. Then we rested a little. Next we loaded clothes, and other stuff into the RV. Steve cleaned out a bin on the driver’s side. We took time for lunch and then loaded more stuff in the RV. We left for OKC about 4:15 and arrived at 5:20. Steve had an MRI appointment at 6:15. We got home about 8:30. I fixed us a pork chop  and we ate salad and berries with it. We are trying to use things up before we hit the road.

6-Tue-We were up by 7:15. We had our breakfast and watched TV a bit. Then we loaded the food in the RV. The freezer and refrigerator are packed! I bought groceries when I should not have. We also loaded our last minute stuff from the bedroom. It is raining again. We are waiting for it to stop. We did our town errands, mail, RV oil, cash and Braums. As we were out the rain slowed down to a sprinkle. So we backed the RV out and loaded the dogs. We got the pickup hooked up and drove to OKC. We arrived at Twin Fountains RV park about 3:30. Then we hooked up our utilities. Kristi joined us for supper and we went to Bricktown Brewhouse at Remington Park. It was not the greatest choice. The service was lousy because there was basically only one person working.

7-Wed-We got up at 6 AM. We dressed, made the bed, had breakfast and walked the dogs. We went to the VA at 700 AM. We checked in at 7:30. Steve had injections in his back and was done about 8:40. Then it was back to the RV. I made Steve relax and keep the ice palace on his back. We watched TV and walked the dogs.I made chili for supper.

8-Thu-We didn’t get up until 9:15. We dressed and made the bed. Next we walked our dogs and unhooked the electric and water. Steve got a part to keep the tow bar from shifting so much. We tried to put it on but needed a different sock for the torque wrench. So we went to Auto Zone and got one. We got that fixed and hooked up the pickup. We were on our way at 11:10 AM. We drove I-44 through OKC and joined I-40 West to Amarillo. Steve got sleepy about 1:45 so we stopped at Texola and he took a nap. We started again at 3 PM or so and then just before we got to Groom Texas, the RV started acting up. It was running rough. It was in Limp mode. We were able to get pulled into a truck stop called Garrison’s at Groom. So Steve started trying to figure out what was wrong. It finally hit him that we had a similar problem before with the throttle actuator control and a sensor. We still had some sensor cleaner in the RV and he sprayed some on the offending area. Then he was able to get it going and we filled up with gas and drove on in to Amarillo. Whew! We made it about 5:00 PM. Steve’s sister and her grandson and girlfriend met us at Texas Roadhouse for supper. After supper we went to Auto Zone to buy a code reader. It was expensive. We think they sold us a model meant for technicians, not regular guys. Tomorrow he will work on the RV.

This is the part we got to make our tow bar work better.

Beautiful day in western Oklahoma

We crossed into Texas
This is the stow away hitch tightener. I took pictures so we know how it goes.

9-Fri-We were up at 8 and completed our routine things. Steve worked on diagnosing the RV problem until about noon. Then he decided we needed to call a mobil RV mechanic. We walked the dogs again. I took a nap. We had leftover chili for supper. Finally about 7:15 PM, the mobil mechanic arrived. He has to order a part and it will be Monday before it arrives. Also the water here at the AOK Campground has been off from 9 AM til about 6 PM. Another day in the life of and RVer. We are staying here at AOK Campground, I finally figures out my passport america membership is still good until November, 2025 - So we are getting the bargain rate of $17 per day.

10-Sat-Today was just another putz day. I worked on the blog. We watched TV. Later we picked up Irene and went for a hamburger at Coyote Bluff in Amarillo. It was OK but not that great. I had read it about it on someone’s blog. Everyone has an opinion about the best burgers. My vote for best burgers is, Burgertown in Bigfork, MT. We visited with Irene and then returned to the RV and watched TV.

11-Sun-We were up at 8 again this morning. We completed our morning routine and walked the dogs. We made a Walmart run for a few items we needed. Then it was back to the RV. I wished everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. Then we putzed around. We also took a short nap. I am making hamburger helper for supper. Irene came over and ate with us, then we went to Braum's for ice cream! Yum!

Mom passed in 2002, Nancy in 2018 and now Pam has Cancer.

12-Mon-We were up at 7 AM. We completed all our morning routines. Then we started making preparations to leave. We dumped the sewer and put water in the fresh water tank. We even put away the sewer hose. Next we attached the pickup. We wanted to be ready to roll out after the mobil mechanic got our part and installed it. We called them about 11, they needed to pick up the part - it didn’t arrive until 11 or noon. So we wait. We called back at 1:00 PM - the mechanic had trouble. Finally two guys came about 2 or so. The part was wrong, it does not fit. so we wait til tomorrow for the other part. They ordered two hoping that one or the other would work out. So we are in hurry up and wait mode. We called Irene and went to Cici’s pizza about 6:30. Then we went to the VA hospital to visit her ex- husband. They are now friends after lots of years. We returned back to the RV about 9:30 PM.

Full moon

13-Tue-We didn’t get up so early today, about 8:30. We had a slow start, no need to hurry. We made the bed and got dressed and walked the dogs. Then we just putzed around waiting on the mobil mechanic. We ate leftovers for lunch. The mechanic showed up about 2 PM wit the other part- again it doesn’t fit. The slant (angle) of the gas pedal is wrong. They did help us narrow down the the communication error was the gas pedal. This is a Workhorse chassis. It is an orphan and it is difficult to find parts for it. They suggested we get the part from a dealer. They also helped Steve with the fancy code reader. So then we started frantically working the phones and computer to try to find the part. We finally located one in Washing state. The lady who I talked to n the phone was able to match the part number with the one I had. Wo we felt confident to go ahead on order it. It is not cheap. We are going to have them overnight it to Steve’s sister’s house. It should arrive on Thursday. Maybe we can get it installed by Steve then and hit the road again on Friday. Cross your fingers. We picked up Irene and wet to Rosa’s Cafe and Tortilla Factory for Taco Tuesday! The food was very good. We also hit up Braums for ice cream again. Then we sat outside for awhile at Irene’s and visited. It was a cool evening.

Yes we are in the flight path!

14-Wed-Up at 8. No need to hurry. We are waiting, not sure about patiently. We did our chores and got dressed. We walked the dogs and I started working on catching up the blog. Steve is working on the pickup blinker. I was on the phone with AT&T for more than an hour trying to get my email fixed. It ended up being a password problem. They were not helpful, I finally got it done myself. We had lunch and I talked to Hazel. Mainly we just hung out in the RV. We walked the dogs more and played on our iPads and watched TV.

15-Thu-We were up at 7:30  We had breakfast and got ready. Then we walked the dogs. We went to Walmart for a few more supplies. We got back to the RV at 11:30. The part we need has arrived. We put away our groceries and drove to Irene’s to get it. Steve put the part on (gas pedal). Then we dumped the tanks, disconnected the utilities and hooked up the pickup. We left Amarillo, TX at 2:00 PM and drove to Lamar, CO. We stopped about 5 ish. We stayed at Sundance High Plains RV Park. We have stayed here before, but there are new owners.
