May 1 - May 7, 2022 Remembering a Life Lost Too Soon and Heading North

Sunday (1st) Today we had our breakfast and walked the dogs. Later we had showers and got ready for lunch. We were meeting with David (Steve’s ex Brother-in-Law) who will do the funeral service. Also Kristi and the kids and Steve’s Ex wife will be there. We went to Dyers BBQ in Amarillo and the food was pretty good. The graveside service was planned and details arranged. After lunch we went to the mall for a little shopping. I wanted to go to Dillards and we checked out Penneys also. Then we returned to the RV. I changed the channels on our Dish account and suspended Direct TV at home. Monday (2nd) After our usual morning routine and walking the dogs we were ready to receive company. Kristi, Austyn, and Logan came over and we went to a pizza place for lunch. Then back to the RV.

Tuesday ( 3rd) Today we will attend the graveside service for Brad. So after walking our dogs - we showered and got ready. We left at 2 PM and drove to the Cemetery. We had trouble fining the gravesite and had to check with the office to find it. Yesterday Kristi drove us by it- but evidently we did not pay good enough attention to find it today. Anyway we did find it. After the service Kristi and the kids went to Texas Roadhouse to eat supper with us. Logan stayed overnight with us at the RV.

Wednesday (4th) After all the usual chores we started getting the RV ready to move. We were going to stay over another night but the park could not extend our stay. Kristi  and Austyn picked up Logan a few minutes after 11:00 AM and were left the RV park. We gassed up the RV at Travel America. Then we drove out to Irene’s (Steve’s sister). We sat around and visited they left her place about 1:00 PM. We drove to Boise City, OK and the road to Lamar, CO was closed. So we had to re-route. We drove some crazy back roads but finally arrived at Black Mesa State Park near Kenton, OK. You have to make an effort to get here, because it is off the beaten path. I have wanted to stay here for awhile and now I’ve done it. It was only $17 to stay and the site was nice. We had a relaxing evening.

Thursday (5th) We were up about 9:00 AM and got around. We did  all the usual chores to prepare to leave plus we walked the dogs. We then drove to Kenton, then to Clayton, NM and on to Folsom, NM. The next town was Branson, CO and we finished our day at Pueblo South KOA near Colorado City, CO. We relaxed after setting everything up. And I finally received a call back from Peregrine Pines Famcamp at Colorado Springs saying we could secure a site there for three nights.

Friday (6th) We made our preparations to leave and then went up the road to the Air Forced Academy Famcamp in Colorado Springs, CO. We took one wrong turn at a roundabout but it was easily corrected. We got check in and set up. Then we took a nap. After waking up we went to the commissary to get some groceries. Steve loves to check out their prices when we are on base.

Saturday (7th) Today we did our laundry because they had a very nice little facility here. And the prices were very reasonable. In the afternoon, we tuned in to the Kentucky Derby. The winner was Rich Strike and he was a 70-1 long shot. I wished I had about $100 down on him!
