Traveling May 13 and 14, 2018

We stayed at Salina KOA on our first night. We have stayed here at least 2 other times in our travels. We got a pull thru site with water and electric only - so the cost was pretty reasonable - $30. We left in good time on Sunday morning and my plan was to head west on I-70 for  awhile then cut up to I 80 When I told the GPS my destination - she took us another way - the back roads.

That was OK too, sometimes it is nice to get off the interstate.  So I started looking at the map and to my surprise we were going to go through the town with the World's Largest Ball of Twine! This special destination is in Cawker City, KS! We stopped and walked the dogs when we arrived and  enjoyed checking out this marvel!  We also saw a neat old Ford Thunderbird.

We kept driving north and west and soon we were at Phillipsburg, KS and I got a picture of this neat courthouse out the window.

We left Kansas and entered Nebraska - after driving these backroads - Steve was kind of tired and we saw a really nice little park at Alma Nebraska. So we stopped the RV and got out and walked the dogs and ourselves.  We realized it would be nice to stop for the day - so we checked out their city RV park - but it looked crowded, so we decided to check out the Harlan Lake Reservoir. This was an excellent decision. This is a Corp of Engineers Campground and it was beautiful. The sites were level, and had good spacing between RV's. There was plenty of room to walk with the doggies and not be on top of other people. This would also be a nice place to have a bike. Lots of paved roads you could ride on.  With my Senior Park Pass it was only $14/night for full hook-ups. Great! We woke up to rain and thunder the next morning ( Monday, May 14) so we decided to stay another night. It stopped raining and we drove around a little bit. We ate a very good hamburger at a cafe/bar in Alma.
