Sept 20 - 26, 2021 Heading South and East

Monday (20th) rolled around and neither one of us felt great. So we stayed over another day at KOA. We spent the day resting and watching TV. Later we watched Monday night football. I think the weather being overcast and rainy made us feel blah. Tuesday we got up and around and after the usual chores we left Billings about 10:00 AM. Then we drove to Sheridan, WY.

Our first stop was at Walmart to get some groceries and supplies. The we made our way to a Peter D's RV Park about 3:30 PM. After we got set up I wanted to drive to the place where you can see wild horses. It is the Pryor Mountain wild horse range. I thought Sheridan was close enough to Lovell, WY so that we could see the horses. Turns out it would have been closer to see them by heading down through Montana. So we went on a long drive anyway to Sibley Lake. We ended up in a nice forest recreation area with a lovely lake and a campground and picnic tables. It was 8,000 feet in elevation (which I did not know). It was also about 49 degrees and we didn't bring jackets. So we walked around a bit with the dogs and headed back to the RV. It was a nice adventure, but we didn't stay long due to the elevation and Steve's previous trouble with altitude sickness. We didn't want to tempt fate. When we got home I fixed us turkey burgers and we ate chips and berries with that.

Eek, Snow!

Wednesday we got up and around and got gas in the RV and headed south.

Pete's RV Park in Sheridan, WY - nice place

During our drive we saw lot of Pronghorns after Sheridan. We kept going south on I-25 We did stop at a rest stop at Kaycee, WY and had lunch and walked the dogs. Then we moseyed south some more. We ended up in Wheatland, WY. We drove by one RV park because it looked sketchy. So I looked up another one and we couldn't find anyone to answer the phone or to check with about their procedure for check in and the site were very unlevel with connections that might not have worked. So then I looked up the free city park - and we toured it but would have had to unhook and back in. That idea didn't suit us, so I called the RV park we passed and we returned there. They had a pull thru, but most of these spots were occupied by those who don't move around. It wasn't great, but it worked. We will stay elsewhere next time through. I even tried to get in at the Terry Bison Ranch on down the road - but they were full. We had burger, chips and berries for supper.

Thursday (23rd) we continued south on I-25. We stopped at the rest stop on the Wyoming state line and walked the dogs. We crossed into Colorado at 12;06 PM and finished getting through Denver about 1:30 PM.

Our day ended at the Pueblo, CO KOA about 3:30 PM. It was a nice park, but of course it looks like a desert and everything is gravel. After supper we treated ourselves with ice cream from their office.

Crossing into Texas

Friday we needed fuel and it was difficult to find gas at Pueblo that we could fit our RV and Pickup into. We finally accomplished that task and then we were headed east to La Junta, CO and south to Dalhart, TX. The road was pretty good but slow going because there are small towns to go through. We arrived at Lamar, CO at 3:30 PM and gassed up again. We crossed the Texas state line about 5:00 PM and got to Amarillo by 7:00 PM. It was 90 degrees - a temperature we do not enjoy!

Sunset at Cadillac RV Park

I called four (4) RV parks before I was able to get a site at Cadillac RV Park. It is way out on the west side of Amarillo! And again it appeared that most of the RV's here did not move around. But since we had such a hard time finding a place, we settled for it. One RV park said that the state fair was going on and another said that RV caravan groups had started coming through and that might be why they were all full. I even called some back on Saturday- but no luck. We will stay put. We are in Amarillo to see Steve's sister and she lives out of town on the east side of town! So that was why we were hoping to get closer to that side of town.

On Saturday (25) we got up a little bit later. It was nice to rest. We were still sitting around at 10 AM and called Steve's sister. She wanted to go out to eat later about 4 or so and that was fine with us. Because I know it is hard to get into somewhere to eat in Amarillo on a Saturday night! So eating early is a great idea!. We showered and putzed around. We also checked out Camping World, trying to find some light bulbs, but they didn't have what we needed. We picked Irene up and returned to the Texas Roadhouse for supper. After that we visited at her house and then went back to the RV to rest and sleep.

Sunday arrived and we got back on the road. We left Amarillo about 11:00 AM and drove straight through on I-40 to El Reno. We arrived at the El Reno Lake RV Park about 3:30 and it was HOT! 92 degrees. Not liking these hot temps. We were enjoying lovely temps in Montana. After getting the RV set up, it was time to take the dogs out for a little walk.

Then Kristi, Logan and Sky came out and we visited with them. Supper was at Alfredo's Mexican restaurant in Yukon. Logan drove us there. He really likes using his learning permit! Kristi picked up Austyn and we had a nice visit during supper. After supper we watched football and retired to bed! We covered a lot of miles this week!
