September 1 - 18, 2022 Winding Down The Season

Thursday (Sept 1) One of the routine things we do is check the car count on the 1st of the month. Today when we did that it was really Wonky! It read about 143,000 something. We decided the lightning storm had messed it up. So I relayed the problem to the boss - and then averaged the count for August for the last 3 years and sent that to him. I'm not sure if he used that or some other number. There was a guy here who lost his wallet. I was sorry to tell him - no one had turned one in and we had not seen one either. Later we watched OK State play Central Michigan (football). And my Cowboys won! Yea! The high today was 88°.

Friday (2) After our walk and chores we sat outside and listened to a podcast. Then it was lunchtime. Our boss, Tony was here about 12:30 and stayed about 30 minutes. We went to town for supper at Rosa's Pizza. Saturday (3) We were not too busy this morning. Sydney (the seasonal worker) cam out about 11:30 and visited with us. We had lunch and watched football. It was a little smoky today. Sunday (4) We had a nice cool morning and a very enjoyable walk. The smoke had cleared some, so we appreciated that. We watched two Ospreys fly in unison over the lake - it was a lovely morning. The afternoon got busy and I monitored the dock.

Monday (5) Today is Labor Day - the unofficial end of summer. We did all the usual things today. The site was busy but not packed. Later we went to town  with the goal of getting chicken strips at Dairy Queen. But they were closed due to no staff! So we returned to the RV and ate PB on toast with berries and huckleberry frozen yogurt!

More fun at the lake. That big blue thing holds 4 people or more!

Tuesday (6) Today we gathered up the laundry and trash and went to town. We dropped off the trash at the container site and then went to the laundry mat. I also made a stop at the post office for stamps to mail birthday cards. We ate lunch at the Mexican place next to the laundry. It was pretty good. This is the week our boos is gone - and so Sydney is checking in with us when she finishes her day.

Wednesday (7) Today was our big excursion to Walmart in Kalispell. We were back to the RV by 12:30. Our lunch was a frozen dinner (lean cuisine). Then it was pretty much relax and watch TV tile evening. Thursday (8) After finishing our routine stuff, we took the sunshade off the awning. Now it seemed to be operating better. It was making a noise with that sunshade attached. Sydney cam be and visited again. Steve cleaned out a bin on the passenger side of the RV. There was a mouse in there. So it had made a mess and Steve got that squared away. We watched Thursday night football  and the Buffalo Bills won.

This was at 10:11 PM - I just love to see that moon come up over the trees.

Friday (9) We were slightly lazy this morning. We watched TV before we ever got dressed or did any of our chores. Steve did some weed eating after lunch. The temperature was really nice 66° at 4:30 PM. We drove to Horseshoe Lake and then had a campfire after supper.

Saturday (10) Today we did our chores. Sydney came by around lunch time. Later we drove to town for a few items. Then we watched Football. My team OK State beat AZ State, so that made me happy.

Sunday (11) It was a little smoky today. So we did our chores and walked. Then we watched football again. Green Bay Packers got beat by the Steelers. We are really enjoying these slower days. Monday (12) After we  finished our morning routine we headed to town. We hauled off the trash and then went to pick up the mail. Today we started doing a few things to get ready to leave. We put our ice chest and Zoe's crate in the back of the pickup. Then we did a few other putzing stuff in side the RV. Later we watched Denver get beat by Seattle. Supper was pork chops, rice and berries.

Tuesday (13) It was a little smoky yesterday and today. We did our routine things here at the lake and then drove to Kalispell. I picked up my meds and we got supplies at Walmart. Tony Powell called and said he might come and get our trash can with the bear proof lid. OK - but when we got back it was still there. We asked him later and he said it wasn't the kind he needed. Tonight we made a nice campfire and cooked our hamburgers and potatoes outside. I think the food tastes so much better when you cook it outside. Wednesday (14) After finishing our walk and chores we moved the firewood to the plastic shed. We used an old wheelbarrow which made it easy work. We are trying to do some tasks each day to get ready to leave. I also typed the shed inventory and mailed it to Tony. Steve checked the tire pressure and the oil. We are getting things ready.

Red Headed Woodpecker - one of the few we have seen this summer

Thursday (15) We gathered up the laundry and trash and went to town. After doing the laundry - we stopped at Grateful Bread for lunch. They were closed - it said they had a medical appointment. Boy this summer has been a little difficult to eat out. A lot of places have not been able to get enough help - so we eat at home. That's probably better for us anyway. After we had lunch we flipped our mattress  and put on clean sheets. That pretty much finished us off for the day!

LOL Friday (16) Today we had to drag the hose over to clean the bathroom - it was a mess. We are so glad we have that option. Tony and Sydney were here about noon and stayed an hour. They helped us move the picnic table. He also gave us some really nice metal drinking cups - reusable. These are to help keep plastic use down.

A house being built across the lake. We will check the progress next summer.

Saturday (17) Today we put away the mat, window shade, the rope boundary. We packed up more stuff. This year we are trying to spread the packing up over a few days instead of one. It was a beautiful day. We had another nice fire and made s'mores tonight.

S'mores

Sunday (18) After getting all our things done. We went to Echo Lake Cafe and ate brunch. We were there from 11:30 to 1:00. We also hauled off trash and stopped at the post office and grocery store. Steve cleaned the windows when we got back to the RV. We put away more stuff in preparation to leave tomorrow.

We had all the life jackets put away. Discovered this on our last day! Someone unloaded these off their boat and most were not Type III - So we had to haul them to the trash. It was kind of a mess.

  1. Such gorgeous country ... except for the coming snow! There's a great quilt shop in Kalispell that I want to see some day.
