Tuesday, August 29, 2017 Moving to Oregon

Today we took a few more pictures of this campground before we left. Steve has been amazed by the size of the clovers here - so he wanted me to take this picture!
a This is the picture from the backup camera in the RV.
This is our view from the front windshield - the big picture window! Divided into Left and Right. I can't get it all in one shot.
A little cabin next to us, and a shot of the trees hiding RV's.
Also - found out when we were leaving-that this park charges you $5.00 more dollars to dump your holding tanks! This is adding insult to injury, no cell phone signal, no sat TV, no FHU, not supposed to use your air conditioning, and an extra charge to dump! Our goal today is Fort Stevens State Park (SP) in Oregon. We will be staying a week there - FREE! Oregon does this for Disabled Vets. I heard about this by reading blogs. If you are a disabled vet - you can stay free for 10 days per month in Oregon State parks! Wow! Score! So we wrote to the appropriate place and sent in the required forms to take advantage of this awesome perk. This is a picture of a field ready for planting - I have been amazed by how much farming there is here in Washington. Also a nice barn.
We were back to driving on WA 12 then I-5. We crossed the Columbia River at Longview then we were in Oregon.
Yes those are logs!
Ships on the Columbia River!
Crossing into Oregon.
We drove along Highway 30 through the quaint little town of Astoria until we arrived at the State Park. If you want to see beautiful pictures of the famous Astoria - Megler Bridge - check google. I could not get good images of it! It connects WA and OR. It is very high and long - many RVers don't like to cross it - we didn't come that way so did not cross it.
We checked in and got our site map, unhooked the pickup and I took the lead. I drove to our loop but did not notice the one way arrow, so I went all the way around the wrong way with Steve following me in the motorhome! I figured it out about 1/3 the way around the loop - oh well, we got through it and turned back and drove in correctly. We parked and got set up. We have no satellite TV and only one bar of 4G or LTE at times. And get this - they are having a Civil War Re-Enactment here at this State Park over Labor Day Week-end. We ate at the Uptown cafe - not bad but not great - would not return. We bought gelato at Scoops to make up for it!
