6/5/12 Tuesday Kayenta to Tuba City, AZ
Well we slept in this morning then walked the dogs and ate a bite for breakfast. After that we stowed our stuff in the RV and disconnected it from the utilities. Then we hooked up the pickup and got moving about 11:30 AM (not too early). We stopped at NAPA for a torque wrench, extender and 22mm socket so we can tighten the lug nuts on the RV after 150 miles. Finally got out of Cortez CO and stopped at the Ute Mountain Casino for lunch - spent $20 for lunch and played the machines about 15 minutes and came out even.
Then we started driving towards Tuba City AZ and on to the Grand Canyon on Hiway 160. The wind was very bad -- crosswinds that almost blew us off the road a few times. It made it very hard for Steve to steer -- it was a pretty big fight for him. Finally I said let's pull over and try to start early tomorrow morning. So we parked in the Navaho shopping Center at Kayenta AZ for the night. I fixed baked potatoes and chicken in the microwave and had fruit and yogurt. We have been people watching while parked here. This part of NE Arizona is very barren and desolate. The scenery is interesting but not what I want to see every day.
The wind finally let up so Steve felt like driving some more and we ended up at Tuba City in an RV park behind Quality Inn. Not the prettiest and definitely not level. We had to put down a $5 deposit for a key to turn on the water. It was different but probably safer than staying in the parking lot.
