Entering Wyoming |
Madison River (I think) |
Next we saw the mud pots from the road . We have seen them before and so we did not stop. They have a sulphur smell and we don't like that smell much!
Then the Yellowstone River came into view - it is so wide it looks like a lake. It flows from south to north. It is a beauty!
We also cross ed fishing bridge and see Yellowstone Lake. The bison we see today are singles - we didn't see a herd today. Yellowstone Lake is HUGE! It has 87,040 acres which covers 136 square miles and has 110 miles of shoreline! After we cross Fishing Bridge -we are driving in construction for about 10 miles - very slow going and rough! The drive from West Yellowstone to Cody is about 130 miles but we spent about 4-5 hours getting through today. Patience is required!
This Bison picture is taken through the front windshield of the RV - that is why there is a glare. It was pretty cool and breezy today and we didn't have the windows open much.
Yellowstone Lake and a steam hole!
And to our great surprise we came to a BEAR jam! And guess what? It was a grizzly bear out in the meadow grazing - just like a cow. We parked the RV and Steve and I walked back to the Bear Jam. We both took pictures - mine are not too good with the iPhone but hopefully he got some better images. It is so exciting to see a Grizzly out in the wild - even though you can't get that close and there are lots of other people viewing it with you
We continued east after a bit seeing flowers and mountains - some of our favorite things.
As we neared the eastern boundary of Yellowstone we saw Sylvan Lake and Sylvan Creek - both were gorgeous!
If you have never been to Yellowstone - plan your trip - try to stay at least a week! There are so many wonderful things to see. We have been 4 other times, so this visit was just to see wildlife and hit a few of the highlights! If you can't tell - I LOVE Yellowstone!
Then we had the drive to Cody - it is a steep downgrade but Steve handled it great. It was a little scary looking over the edge of the road in a few places and seeing the tops of trees. Sometimes there was no guardrail either. But still a magnificent drive.
Here is Buffalo Bill Stay Park - just outside of Cody.
We arrived safely at Cody, WY and stayed at Ponderosa Campground. They do not take credit cards - only cash or checks - so I gave them a check for one night. We may stay a few extra days just to catch up on a few things.
