Sunday, September 16, 2018 Off to Yellowstone

Today we walked the dogs and did our thing before heading out on our drive to Yellowstone  National Park.  We gassed up at the convenience station here at the RV park and saw these signs. Today we will drive to West Yellowstone, MT  and then tomorrow we will visit Yellowstone!

Again today was another beautiful drive along the Jefferson and Madison River, US 287. We saw lots of people in drift boats on the river fishing and enjoying themselves. And we just enjoyed the lovely drive of about 130 miles.  We drove through the small town of Ennis, MT - which looked really cute but also a little touristy. Anyway - we didn't stop - maybe next time. I know that it seems I say this a lot - maybe next time. But we have to balance out how we feel physically, the weather, and the time frames - so sometimes we don't do everything available. If we miss something that is OK, because we are enjoying what we do see.  There is so much beauty out there, that we can probably never see it all.  We also passed Quake Lake - which has a sad story (earthquake)  - did not stop.  We drove by Hegben  Lake where we stayed about 6 years ago with the kids and Kristi.

When we left Cardwell - we were near the Jefferson  River - then we turned south and the road went along the Madison River.  The Jefferson, Madison and Gallatin meet at Three Forks and form the Missouri River - thus the headwaters of the Missouri River (State Park we visited yesterday). Lewis & Clark named these rivers on their expedition. Of course Jefferson was President, and Madison was Secretary of State, while Gallatin was Secretary of the US Treasury.

We arrived at West Yellowstone pretty early in the day - about 12:30 or 1:00 and looked at Baker's Hole Forest Campground - there were no available sites where we would fit. So the campground host suggested we go to Rainbow Point CG - another Forest Service CG that has some electric loops. So off we went. The road into it was extremely bumpy! Severely bumpy. I thought it was going to rattle our teeth loose and everything in the RV shake apart.  Anyway the site is nice with trees and neighbors not too close.  The trees block the satellite - but that is OK - we can watch movies or nature!
Poopsie
And finally,  Poopsie being adorable - waiting on her order for a hamburger at McDonald's!
