First of all the 4-wheeler had to be started. Finally a park employee came and showed Steve the trick to start the 4-wheeler. Then Steve drove the 4-wheeler with the log splitter attached over to the wood pile. We put on gloves and took turns operating the splitter. It was interesting. The bad part is when the splitter hits a knot.
You have to take a piece of plywood off the back window of the wood shed and then remove two 2X4's to have an open window to throw the split wood into. Pretty soon our volunteer coordinator, Ranger Errin Bair came by and said we needed eye protection and ear protection-so we took a break and got that squared away. Next we had to gas up the splitter again. The park has a special shed for all their gas and oil- so we got some gas and started in again. We did this about three hours then decided to call it quits for the day.
We returned to the RV and had some lunch, then a nice little rest. Splitting wood, even with a hydraulic splitter makes you tired.
