Friday, Saturday & Sunday September 11, 12, 13, 2015

Friday-
Today we took it a little slow.  After we got around we took a short drive toward Syringia, ID.  It started out very steep, we were glad to be in the pickup.  We didn't really see anything real exciting, so we returned to the RV.
We did see more fire camps. These wildfires have been all over the west this summer.  We had some cheese, crackers and fruit for supper. No big deal!
We stayed at Grangeville, ID at Bear's Den RV Resort (not a resort).  We had gravel pads and roads- man am I tired of gravel!! Anyway it worked out fine.  We will move down the road tomorrow.

Saturday-Driving Day
We did the morning routine.  Steve woke up at 5:30 and I got up at 7:00.  We were actually on the road at 9:00 AM and that included getting gas in the RV.  We had a very steep grade coming up after 8 miles.  It had a 7% grade for 8 miles.  It also had 3 runaway truck ramps.

Steve did gear down and we had a good outcome.  We drove down highway 95.

It had a lot of variation in scenery.

It was curvy and hilly which makes for a slow drive in the RV.

A lot of the time we could only drive about 35-40 mph.  We stopped for lunch at Cambridge, ID at the fairgrounds.

The dogs enjoyed running around and we relaxed for a while.  The road continued to be curvy and hilly, so we just went slow.

Then we got to I-84 and went from country roads to 4 lanes of traffic.

We were able to pick up the pace and cover more territory after that.
We arrived at Mountain Home Air Force Base about  5:00 PM Pacific Time.  It was 6:00 Mountain time and when we got out it was about 95 degrees!  HOT!  It sure made us wish we were back at Farragut State Park! We unhooked the pickup and hooked up the utilities.  They have special rules here about dogs- I think because they have a military dog training facility here.  Because the daily and weekly rates are cheap, we couldn't use our free camping certificates from the Air Force Camping club, oh well we still got a bargain!
We decided we wanted something cold - like ice cream or a shake.  Went to Burger King on base - it closed at 3:00 PM.  That was out.  The commissary was closed, the Exchange didn't have ice cream!  We did find out where the convenience store was though.  We went there and found ice cream and pizza.  So we got that and went back to the RV.  This base is 10 miles from the town, so we did not want to return to town.  We returned to the RV and watched some movie on TV and walked the dogs.

Sunday - Relaxation
OK - today we slept in as long as the dogs would let us.  Then we walked the dogs, about 4 times before noon.  It was not quite as hot today, and the wind was blowing, so that helped.  We decided to go the commissary to stock up.  We did it about 1:00 so we could get our stuff before they closed!  They only charge $15/night here, but on the week-ends everything closes early!
I got our Dish switched, so we could watch football, and we watched the Denver Broncos play - until we fell asleep.  We have watched Dallas, and walked the dogs during the evening.  We went ahead and hooked up the pickup so that will speed up our leaving tomorrow.
