Wednesday March 4, 2020 A Tour

Fancy Entry at a Brewery we passed!

There was a thunderstorm overnight and it was cloudy when we woke up. We got around and drove to LBJ Ranch National Historic Site. I checked in at the visitor's center and they gave me maps and told me spots to check out. This is a drive through tour. It is a National Historic Park and a Texas State Park. It is huge. I took pictures but due to the clouds, they didn't turn out great.
The Pedernales River runs through the ranch and can be viewed from the front porch of the Texas White House. On the tour you see the Junction school house, LBJ's Birthplace, Johnson Family Cemetery and Sam E. Johnsons, Sr.'s home. Then you tour the pasture and come to the Show Barn. You can see the cattle - they have LBJ on one horn and a number on the other horn. We stopped at the parking lot where the Hangar serves as a National Park visitor center and you can tour the jet LBJ used to get from Austin to the Ranch. We walked around the grounds and also checked in at the visitor center. They do not give tours of the house anymore - so we didn't get to go inside. LBJ donated the ranch to the National Park Service in 1972.

There are 3 deer in this picture- but hard to see.

Then you return to the State Park Visitor center and drive to the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm. They have pigs, cattle, sheep, turkeys, chickens and a lovely garden. They had just cooked their dinner on a wood stove. There are re-enactors who demonstrate life as it was many years ago without electricity or running water.

I had some trouble downloading the pictures - so some are repeats.  Sorry about that.

Could help but add this picture!
