Missiles, Badlands and Ice Cream, Tuesday, June 20, 2017

Even when you are on a long trip in your RV there are still routine things that must be handled. Today started out slowly, with the payment of a few bills, and getting Steve's checkbook balanced. We showered and walked the dogs to keep them happy.
Next Steve & I visited the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site. This site gives the history of the cold war and the build-up of the United States nuclear arsenal. The US always had more nukes than Russia (yea!), and this site also had interesting displays and videos of the time period. If you want to tour a decommissioned missile silo you must make reservations online. We did not do this.
I wanted to drive back into Badlands NP and take a few more pictures and stamp our National Parks (NP) Passport book. They have some nice trails to walk and we did walk around a bit - but since we had a late start, it was too hot for us to hang out long on the trail.
We had left the dogs back at the RV so we could accomplish this without them barking at everyone. They are fine staying in the RV, we keep it nice and cool and leave the TV on so they don't hear strange noises. It got pretty hot, so we needed ice cream and we stopped at the tourist cafe across the street from our RV park and got a nice twist cone! It was huge! Then back to the RV to walk the dogs and fix a simple supper. Later we attached the pickup so we would be ready to head to Rapid City tomorrow and stay at Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB) Famcamp. We want to drive the Iron Mountain Road, visit Deadwood and see theDevil's Tower. Then on to North Dakota.
