Off We Go! June 16 & 17, 2017

Friday we headed north. We got away about 8:15, pretty good for us. We got to Perry and filled the RV with gas. Then we stopped by our house and picked up Steve's comfy pants, which we had not packed. Then we were back on the road.
We stopped at the Kansas Welcome Center on the turnpike and had our lunch, walked the dogs and napped for a bit. We wanted to get ice cream - but McDonald's machine did not work. We drove to Salina and stayed at the KOA. We got set up and cooled off. Tonight we had a crockpot supper that I had in process while we were driving. That worked out pretty good. We did have to return to Walmart because - what?? technical difficulties - the Carbon Monoxide detector was expired. In fact the sticker on it said it should be replace in March of 2010 - about 7 years ago! We also hooked the pickup back up so we would be ready to go the next morning-the race North to get out of the heat is on!
Saturday we did the usual morning chores and checked in with the office to get the propane tank filled. This KOA was very nice and had lots of cute decor around the park. They also had street signs that relate to the area - like Home on the range and yellow Brick Road. In addition they have a jump pillow, pool, playground, dog park and breakfast - (we forgot to enjoy that). We would stay here again. We stopped at the Shell station to fill up the RV with gas and waited 10 minutes to get to a pump--finally got fuel and we were on our way, North on Highway 81. Steve was driving and later we stopped and I started driving the RV. I have never driven this RV before. I only drove our 1st RV once a little bit. So I got behind the wheel and started driving after some coaching from Steve.
When we got to Genoa, NE we stopped and Steve pulled us into a City Park where we walked the dogs and enjoyed the crisp, cool air. We really enjoyed this drive. There was very little traffic and the views were pretty. This part of Nebraska was very enjoyable. We got burgers and shakes at the drive-in in Genoa and took a nap. The dogs got hamburgers also!
We woke up refreshed and Steve drove us on to Niobrara State Park.
All the sites were back-in so we drove the loop and picked our site. Then we unhooked the pickup and backed into our site. The cost was $20.00 per night for the site and $8.00 per day for our vehicle ($28.00/night). It only had electric hook-ups - no water or sewer. We had some water in our fresh water tank - so no problem. There is a dump station on the way out we can use. We took the dogs on a nice walk by the park office and up to the interpretive display. This park is on the Missouri River and a part of the Lewis and Clark Trail.
