Tuesday, July 18, 2017 Heading North Again!
Today I heard from my sister Marsha and she did good with her surgery. We were slow getting around, not sure when we left -- probably about 10:30 AM. We moved along slowly to Rockport, WA. The scenery, mountains and rivers are breathtaking.
We arrived about 2:00 PM to our campsite, Howard Miller Steelhead County Park. What a welcome sight! This park is beautiful! We rested a bit then decided to drive to the North Cascade National Park. The drives's top speed is 50 mph - most of it is about 35 - 45 mph. We are amazed at every turn. This place is magnificent. We stopped and walked at the Visitor Center (closed --it is open from 9-5).
Drove some of the campground loops and then we walked another roadside trail to see the Gorge High Dam. Then we drove on toward Ross Lake National Recreation Area.
There we decided to return. Unless you are a wilderness hiker (or a good hiker) much of this park is not accessible - but it is well worth visiting to see the views from the road. We stopped at The Eatery ( few miles east of our campground) and had burgers and fries. Then we went back to the RV. We certainly enjoy these beautiful mountains and rivers and creeks.
